The Magik Theatre's recent production, "Lyric and the Keys", exemplifies how creative lighting can transform a play. In this heartwarming adventure, Lyric, a second grader struggling with reading, discovers an unexpected mentor in Mr. Hartley, the school janitor.

With the help of his inventive junk robots, Mr. Hartley nurtures Lyric's confidence and equips her with the tools to overcome her challenges.
Located in San Antonio, Texas, the Magik Theatre is predominantly equipped with MEGA-LITE gear. For this production, the team utilized:
10 MW1
4 EW1
4 MS1
1 Framebot 600
14 N-E Pixstrip H216
2 Drama VW2
4 Drama W50
4 Drama EC200
4 Drama EW200
This impressive array of fixtures established a modern atmosphere, enhancing both vibrant and touching moments throughout the play.
The live performance of a guitarist, accentuated by a Drama W50, further enriched Lyric’s journey, adding depth to the emotional experience.
Lighting designer Sarah Jean Elliott shared that this was her first time using MEGA-LITE fixtures, and she was pleasantly surprised. She praised the MW1 for its quiet operation, smooth movement, and beautiful color mixing. The Framebot, used for specials and effects, was described as versatile and ideal for highlighting specific areas. Sarah also took on programming for the show and looks forward to using MEGA-LITE gear in future projects.
When asked about her choice to work with MEGA-LITE products, Sarah remarked, “The Magik is a wonderful theater that introduces theater and lighting to so many young people and audiences. It's heartening to see a company dedicated to supporting and developing the next generation of theater artists and patrons.”
Lighting supervisor Thaddeus Morris highlighted the impact of the EW1, which creates a multi-beam kaleidoscopic effect that bathes the walls in bright colors, enhancing the actors' performances. “The kids really enjoyed the transformation of the theater in those moments,” he noted.
Thaddeus also expressed his gratitude for MEGA-LITE, stating, “Magik Theatre has been incredibly thankful for the support and innovation that MEGA-LITE has provided over the years. They create amazing lights with so much versatility at a price that we, as a nonprofit, can afford.”
Without a doubt, the Magik Theatre is a place where stories come to life. With the innovative support of MEGA-LITE, it will continue to illuminate the stage with heartwarming narratives and creative lighting design.
